o2000-05-24 - NEWS - GREAT WALL TORCH RUN, MAY 20o
oOakland Exclusiveo

To symbolize and spark Special Olympics China's commitment to reach 500,000 athletes by the year 2004, thousands gathered at the Ju Yongguan section of The Great Wall of China to light the Special Olympics torch, sharing this message of hope with families in China and around the world.

asinchina2.jpg (69887 bytes)

As fans suspected with my previous 'Arnold in China' pics, these pics are (in my opinion) a proof that Arnold is probably in the best shape of recent years. Arnold simply looks bulked up and ripped - and that even in cold condition - without pumping up!

Joined by Special Olympics Athletes, Olympic Athletes, Chinese dignitaries, corporate executives, and families, friends, and leaders of the Special Olympics movement, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Special Olympics Global Messenger Zhang Kun of Harbin China climbed a portion of China's Great Wall to light the Special Olympics flame of hope. Following that, thousands of children and adults from the Chinese and international communities of Beijing joined in a 5,000 meter run/walk to demonstrate their support and to raise funds so that Special Olympics China can expand its important work.

Director John Millius on the set of 'Conan the Barbarian'. Not only did he direct Arnold's most epic role till Crusade (summer 2002 hopefully), but he also brought along his friend Basil Poleudoris, who in my opinion wrote the best possible soundtrack ever!

Thank you, Millius!

Synopsis:
Through the history of mankind, the times that are most recorded in mythology and song are those of great deeds and fantastic adventures. Such a time was the Hyborean Age. Such a tale is the story of Conan the Barbarian. Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is captured as a child after his parents' savage murder by raiding Vanir led by Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), head also of the malignant snake-cult of Set. Fifteen year's agony, first chained to the Wheel of Pain grinding grain and then enslaved as a Pit Fighter, forged a magnificent body and indomitable spirit. Freed miraculously one day by his owner, Conan, with his companions Subotai the Mongol (Gerry Lopez) and Valeria, Queen of Theives (Sandahl Bergman), sets forth upon his quest to learn "the riddle of steel" which, his father has prophesied, will confer ultimate power; and to kill the arch-villain Thulsa Doom.

For those of you who can't wait, I'll post an extremly rare Conan related picture each and every day till this awesome release!

This is a missing scene that you'll soon find on this DVD - Max Von Sydow plays King Osric, who is killed by Thulsa Doom's henchman when he refuses to give his daughter's hand in marriage.

o2000-05-23 - On this day - The ill-fated dinosaurs!o

Friday, May 23, 1997

Summer's second biggest box-office success, The Lost World premiered and showed a glimpse of Schwarzenegger as we'll probably never see him. As an enormous T-rex tears up a suburban video store in the background, the cameras allow viewers a split-second glimpse of a fake movie poster in the foreground featuring Arnold as King Lear. (This might be Spilberg's tribute to Arnold, because his dinos in Jurassic Park did a major damage to Arnold's Last Action hero in 1993!)

LW01.jpg (16227 bytes)

"If you’re quick enough, you’ll see a poster of Arnold Schwarzenegger as King Leer hanging down from the video store in San Diego..."

Edited2.jpg (13852 bytes)Cn174005.jpg (12438 bytes)

Was Raw Deal's publicity shot an inspiration for this joke?

 EM086006.jpg (15355 bytes)

Did the dinos had anything to do with Arnold's Batman & Robin box-office success?

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

May 23, 1999

Arnold reportedly (info from a newspaper overseas) considered doing SGT.ROCK with Renny Harlin.

Todays Hollywood Reporter had this to say:

Schimmel new Bel-Air exec vp

John Schimmel, who most recently supervised production of "The
Replacements" starring Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman, has been upped to executive vp at Bel -Air Entertainment. He replaces Alex Schwartz, who departed two weeks ago. Schimmel, who continues to report to company president Steve Reuther, has spent the past two years as senior vp production. "John has a way with writers and material that makes him one of the best executives around town," Reuther said. "Every writer and director he works with always calls to say thanks." Schimmel is working on "Sweet November" starring Reeves and Charlize Theron. Warner Bros. will distribute "Replacements" and "November." Schimmel is also involved in the Andy Davis-directed "COLLATERAL DAMAGE," an Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer expected to go into production this year. Before joining Bel -Air, Schimmel was president of Michael Douglas' Further Films in 1997-98. Before that, he worked with Douglas and Reuther at their former company, Paramount-based Douglas/Reuther Prods., where he oversaw production of "Face/Off."

In case you don't remember - Arnold's FACE/OFF Trivia:

- in 1994 Arnold considered starring in film named Faceoff with Michael Douglas
- editor Steve Kemper (Face/Off) also edited Arnold's End of Days
