o
Thanks to Arthuro

Just for completion's sake, there are 3 different angle shots of King Osric's death (one of which is a silhoutte) on Conan the Barbarian CE DVD. (look yesterday's question & answer)

Arthur also confirmed that Bantam's novelisation of the film includes the part regarding Valerie pitfighting, and Conan fighting a pitgirl as well.

Check out this info at DVDFILE regarding different Conan versions!

CONAN THE BARBARIAN
Released by Universal Home Video on May 30, 2000

Originally released on DVD in early 1998, the first version of CONAN THE BARBARIAN was much maligned by fans for its lackluster transfer and lack of supplements. Now rectified with the May 2000 release of a new special edition featuring a brand-new anamorphic transfer, commentary and making-of documentary, amongst other supplements, fans of the film finally got the special edition they wanted...but also an additional surprise as well. While all previous home video versions including the first DVD featured the original theatrical cut, the new DVD is an "Expanded Edition" featuring the international cut never before seen in the U.S.

While the running time of this new version doesn't differ much from the theatrical cut, there has been significant changes made to the later parts of the film. Since a comparison of the previous DVD and the new version didn't seem to reveal any noticeable differences to our eyes, coupled with the fact the new DVD includes several deleted scenes presented after the film as supplements, we were perplexed as to how the two versions differed.

Upon inquiry, a reply from o Universal indicates the additions are not a bunch of brand new scenes but more of a reedit of some key sequences in the film. There is one full scene added where Conan talks to Subotai about his past just before the big battle. Also different is the entire reel 7AB was replaced with the International Version material, which varies from the US domestic version throughout the last 10 minutes or so, from the sequence leading up to and after Conan killing Thulsa Doom. It involves many small replacement and additional shots, and the Princess character is seen throughout this sequence, while she is completely omitted in the US Domestic Version.

The new DVD included the participation of Director John Milius, so even though this new edition boasts superior video quality and supplements and is overall the better disc, the original DVD and prior home video versions could be considered collector's items since they now contain the only home video versions of the original U.S. theatrical release version. Hold on to those copies, they might be worth something on eBay!

o2000-06-04 - On this day - Total Recall rocked!o

Monday, June 4, 1990

Exactly 10 years ago Total Recall earned $25,533,700 over its first weekend (June 1-3, 1990). This box-office success lead into an even wider release on 2131 screens.

Thursday, June 4, 1998

German television PRO7 aired a funny advert with Arnold and Jack Nicholson as two soccer players.

Friday, June 4, 1999

Variety columnist Michael Fleming reported that:

"...the franchise that made Arnold Schwarzenegger a superstar may land at Universal Pictures instead of 20th Century, which could have a dramatic impact on what kind of Terminator sequel we'll see on the big screen. Most notably, the move to Universal may cause Schwarzenegger and James Cameron, who were expected to participate in the film if it were to be made at Fox, to detach from the project.
Fleming points out that producers Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna control the fate of the franchise. According to Fleming, while the producing duo were clearing up remaining T3 'rights issues' with MGM, they received $8 million from Japanese and German investors. The columnist suggests that the move turned off Fox and Cameron. If T3 lands on its feet at Universal as expected, indications are that Kassar and Vajna will approach Cameron and Schwarzenegger again. In all likelihood either both will work on or neither will; as told to the Insider by a Lightstorm official last year, the idea of either Cameron or Schwarzenegger doing a Terminator movie without the other involved is 'patently absurd'. players."

Hi,

I just checked out your site. Nice rare Conan related photos. I hope I didn't miss much as your archive only goes back to 5/16. Anyway, I just finished watching the Conan CE DVD. Pretty good. While I've only seen the US Cut before, I'm not sure if they added more scenes beyond the International Cut. While I've heard that the princess is in the International Cut for the ending, this CE DVD shows Conan after he burns down the Mountain of Power, he carries the princess in his arms in a picture similar to this one http://members.aol.com/SMARTMONE/private/conan/ending/end3.jpg Furthermore, the CE DVD included a scene where Conan tells Subotai about his childhood memories of eating berries and about the Spring Winds, which I think is not on any previously released versions. Let me know if I'm wrong in my assumptions regarding the added scenes. Cheers,

-Arthur

Hi Arthur!

You didn't miss anything, because this site is less than a month old! However I do (already) have a space consideration problem with page, so I'll have to delete my archive in the future...

I'm still waiting for my Conan CE DVD (As you've probably noticed - I live in Europe and my English isn't that good), so I can't really tell you if the ending is exactly the same as I know it from international cut! I've seen the International and US cut and the only difference is the ending.

In the longer version (international) Arnold is helped by the princess to kill Thulsa Doom at the Mountain of Power. Even before he carries out the princess into the valley, there are scenes where she distracts the guards...

The second scene you mentioned is NOT in the international cut and I'm looking forward to see it. The deleted scenes on this DVD are (I hope my source is correct):
- Arnold & wolves
- Millius cameo
- King Osric is killed with a sword (3 different angle shots - one of which is a silhouette)

According to one source Conan the Barbarian was originally over three hours long! Many of the scenes were cut and it looks like that only a few are featured on this DVD! The missing are:

- Valeria pitfighting in arena
- more pitfighting
- Conan returns to his village
- Arnold fights in the forrest with Thulsa Doom's warriors
- Arnold and Subutai discussions
and many many more due to gore & blood!

I'm pretty sure about these scenes, because I have the pictures and texts, which represent these scenes. However I'm still looking for anything connected to these scenes:
- pictures, clips, sounds, texts...

So fans, how about a little trading?

The only things that Arnold Schwarzenegger needed to propel him from European obscurity to international fame were a will of steel, an unwavering desire to succeed, remarkable business savvy and boundless self-confidence. Stir in a sense of humor and a solid grip on reality, and you have the ingredients that turned the unlikely "Schwarzenegger" into a household world.

Thanks to Jasono

Over at "Coming Attractions," there is an update stating that since James Cameron isn't directing TRUE LIES 2 anymore, he is going to be turning his attention to directing Arnold in EAGLES. I agree with Jason and hope this is true.

June 1, 2000... They use the name 'Castor Troy' after Nicolas Cage's character in Face/Off, and their identity is a mystery to us here at CA. Since we haven't a clue as to the integrity of our new scooper, we can't vouch for anything they scoop to us. But this being a website that's open to anyone submitting a bit of gossip, we'll allow Castor to have the floor for a moment. We just remind you that, as with all our other scoopers that don't wish to come forward and confirm that they're in a position to legitimately acquire this information, we can't guarantee anything that Castor says is the truth.

"Castor here and boy do I have some news. Now that James Cameron has passed on directing Arnold Schwarzenegger in the sequel to TRUE LIES, word has it that the next film he will direct for the 'Austrian Oak' will be the WWII action drama WITH WINGS AS EAGLES. Word has it that Cameron will produce TRUE LIES 2 for Fox and maybe direct a film for them also. After that, he will turn his attention to Arnold's baby project WITH WINGS AS EAGLES. When I tried to contact Lightstorm Entertainment to learn more, all I got was a 'no comment'. You do the math.

We know Cameron is working on something, or at least that's what Lightstorm CEO Rae Sanchini told the media recently; but what that something is remains a mystery. Perhaps it is With Wings As Eagles; then again, perhaps it's an entirely new project Cameron's toying around with doing. We'll all know once the Oscar-winning director lets the cat out of the bag, which we hope is soon.

[Scoop submitted by 'Castor Troy', who we hope to do more business with in the future.]

o2000-06-01 - NEWS - The Terminator SE DVDo

www.thedigitalbits.com posted the full transcript of live chat with MGM Home Video on the Home Theater Forum. There are some good tidbits dropped about a number of upcoming MGM DVD titles, including Terminator, the Rocky films, Princess Bride, Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again and lots more - you don't want to miss it.

Selected Questions from Chat Transcript: MGM

[Dedrick] When will the Terminator 1 DVD be released and will it be a special edition? Thanks

[mgm] We have not announce this title yet but look for an added-value loaded edition in 4th quarter.

[Ike] I was wondering if you have a favorite DVD, non-MGM? Do you have an upcoming release from MGM that really excites you? Thanks for chatting with us! I'd also like to suggest a Leaving Las Vegas Special Edition with commentary by Figgis, and the current unrated widescreen transfer. Thanks again, we truly appreciate it when studios take the time to talk to us lowly fans. :-)

[mgm] I have to admit, my personal favorite disc is Ghostbusters Special Edition, others here like the Matrix - which is also great. From our home site - we are very excited about our upcomign releases - Terminator and Spinal Tap. We hope you are all pleased. With re: to Leaving Las Vegas, we have not announced any plans to do a special edition. We'll keep you posted. Thanks.

[DAVE_B] I got to the chat late and I figure this has probably been asked, but what's the latest on the "Terminator" Special ED? Also when can we expect "City Slickers"?. thanks again.

[mgm] Terminator special edition - coming soon. Stay alert - you won't be disappointed. Look for City in 2001 - great film.
