Last Action Hero development: Columbia studio chief Mark Canton rounded up 70
Sony brass and whisked them to L.A. for what became known as 'synergy' meeting (also
attended by Arnold). In Screening Room A of the Thalberg Building, Josephson warmed up the
gang with a reel of highlights from the principals' careers. Canton laid out guidelines
for interdepartmental cooperation. Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Peter Guber,
marketing and distribution head Sid Ganis, and McTiernan spoke. Then Schwarzenegger
himself took the podium, cigar in hand, and socked 'em with his Knute Rockne teamwork
speech, "I want to be involved with every single facet of this film from start to
finish," he said, "I'm behind you. I'm accessible to each and every person in
this room, anytime." Sony building has been transformed into Slater's police station.

Arnold attended the premiere of Hoodlum (a gangster film from the '30s
starring Lawrence Fishburne (as Bumpy Johnson) and Vanessa Williams) at the Magic Johnson
theatre in Hollywood with his William Morris agent, Robert Stein. Arnold was supporting
his friend and Hoodlum director Bill Duke, who also worked with Arnold on Predator and
Commando, which were filmed over 10 years ago!

The same night Arnold also attended Excess Baggage premiere to support his Batman
& Robin co-star Alicia Silverstone.

LaserPacific took home Gold and Silver Awards in the Best DVD Movie category at the
First Annual DiVi Awards held during the DVD Production `98 Conference in Universal City,
California. The DiVi Awards, sponsored by the International RecordingMedia Association
(IRMA) and publisher Miller Freeman PSN, showcase the year's most creative DVDs.
LaserPacific's entry of Artisan Entertainment's bestseller "Terminator 2: Judgment
Day" won the Silver DiVi for Menu Design, Authoring and Encoding. Also in the Best
DVD Movie category, the Gold DiVi went to LaserPacific for authoring and encoding of New
Line Cinema's "Spawn." LaserPacific shared the "Spawn" DiVi with the
menu design firm EMA.
